Having made it into the playoffs last term, they’ll definitely be looking to improve on their good effort last time around. Making some good additions to the team over the break, they’ve hoped to address their defensive issues by adding Josh Richardson, James Johnson and by re-signing Willie Cauley-Stein.
Considering they only had the 19th best defensive record in the league and were last in forcing turnovers, it’s certainly positive they’ve strengthened their stopping prowess.

While securing Richardson was a big coup, many questioned whether it was worth it, for the Mavs lost shooting king, Seth Curry, whose loss will be nigh on impossible to replace due to his effectiveness from range.
Although Kristaps Porzingis is currently injured, when fit he’s an absolutely elite player who’s so hard to play against. As shown in their playoff games vs. the Los Angeles Clippers, when Porzingis is firing alongside Doncic, Dallas are a hugely dangerous proposition for any team.
Possessing the league’s best offense last campaign, they’ll be looking to keep up their wicked production, which Doncic will be integral towards.
Boasting an excellent starting five that includes stars Doncic and Porzingis, plus Tim Hardaway Jr., Dorlan Finney Smith and Richardson, when all fit they’ll be right up there.
The key issue will be keeping Porzingis healthy, and if they can do that while improving defensively, there’s every chance the Mavericks, who are priced at $23 to become champions, can achieve great things this season.
