Now that we’ve got that covered, this is where the fun of betting truly starts. There are many potential pitfalls in football betting, but there are just as many ways to come out on top. Let’s look at some of the methods below.
Football betting tips and tricks
Betting on football is a fun way to make money. It’s also an easy way to lose it, though, if you’re not careful.
The trick is knowing the best way to bet and when to take risks without getting too greedy or too conservative. We will use the 2021-22 football season for both Ligue 1 and UEFA Leagues to set a few examples.
1. Get familiar with the leagues
The better informed you are about the different football leagues, the easier it will be for you to find a good strategy that suits your needs.
Ligue 1: French Ligue 1 is the top football league in France. The season runs from August to May. There are 20 teams that play against each other twice over the course of the season to decide the champion. The teams are ranked by points, goal differential, goals scored, head-to-head results, and which team has played more games.
UEFA: There are a total of three competitions held by the Union of European Football Associations. These are the UEFA Champions, UEFA Europa, and the newly introduced, UEFA Europa Conference League.
The Champions League stays the same except the group stage is now reduced to 32 teams – eight groups of four. The group winners will proceed to the round of 16 to determine who qualifies for the UEFA Champions League final.
While the UEFA Europa and UEFA Conference League will have additional knock-off rounds prior to the round of 16. The format can be confusing but it’s worth it in the long run. That’s because you only have to study almost the same teams from other popular European championships such as the English Premier League.

2. Compare predictions with how the season is playing out
Football predictions are made by professionals on the basis of their analysis of the season. It can be a reliable source to base your bets while you’re still familiarizing with the teams.
Once the season is in full swing, you can adjust your bets depending on which predictions are coming true.
Ligue 1: Most football tipsters predicted that Paris Saint-Germain will be the French Ligue 1 champions team this season. And so far, they are spot on as PSG is on the top with 8 wins and only 1 loss so far. So you can be confident in betting on PSG every game, alongside the other two behind them, Lens and Nice.
UEFA: For the group stage, almost every prediction is correct. But there are still results outside of what is forecasted. Like how Villareal, who won the UEFA Cup last season, might need to change gear to surpass Manchester United and Atalanta.
So we suggest only betting on the sure winner or those with clean sheets so far for the group stage.
Champions League – Liverpool, Ajax, Dortmund, Sheriff, Bayern, and Juventus
Europa – Lyon, Legia Warsaw, Olympiacos, Crvena zvezda, Leverkusen, Real Betis, and West Ham
Europa Conference – Partizan, Gent, Roma, and Copenhagen

3. Study both teams per matchup
Review the history of both teams. Understanding their previous games’ score sheets and their style of playing can help you predict how they will perform in this game too.
Consider also the players on each squad and their health. Take note of any injuries or suspensions who may not be able to play in the game, and see which team is more affected.
Ligue 1: Aside from Kylian Mbappé, who is the top scorer in Ligue 1 matches, PSG now also has Lionel Messi and Achraf Hakimi in their squad. These transfers solidify PSG’s title credentials for sure, so you might want to back them regardless of who they are playing.
UEFA: The players are not the only things to factor in. For example, despite Chelsea having all-time winning players like Romelu Lukaku, the team was defeated by Juventus who already crushed them twice before.

Same can be said with Manchester City who has top-performing players such as Jack Grealish. They were not able to overcome PSG and might remain second in their group.
One last killer tip
We always recommend betting during the whole duration of the football season instead of just in the finals. But you need to adjust this if you’re betting for the first time on leagues you don’t follow before.
In this article alone, there are already four leagues you can bet on so it will be overkill to wager every football match. The focus should be on small weekly successes. So work your way up to the big bets by betting only on three to five fixtures every week.
To avoid falling into the trap of ‘jack of all trades, master of none, we recommend that you focus only on one or two betting markets.
