Manchester United are set to be serious challengers for the EPL title following their fine work in the transfer market.

Having locked in two superstar signings in the form of Jadon Sancho for €85 million and Raphael Varane for around €45 million, United will surely be confident of challenging Manchester City for the title.

With Sancho set to add plenty of dynamism, skill, quality and unpredictability to their attacking plans, the gifted former Borussia Dortmund whizz is a welcome addition. Meanwhile, in the case of Varane, and the man who’s won the World Cup with France and four Champions League crowns with Real Madrid will be a major asset with his experience, all-round class and leadership improving them massively defensively.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer couldn’t hide his delight about these marvellous acquisitions, gleaming: “First of all, the club shows ambition with one of the most exciting young forwards in world football and one of the most respected centre-backs in the world. I think the two we’ve got in will make a huge difference for us, both this season short-term but also long-term.

“Raphael is in his prime as a centre-back. He’s the same age [28] as Harry [Maguire], a year older than Eric [Bailly] and a couple years older than Victor [Lindelof, who is actually 27] so I’ve got a fantastic group of centre-backs.

“With Jadon as well, with the young forwards we’ve got, it’s exciting.”

Considering so many of their players will miss the majority of preseason due to their exertions at international level over the summer, it’ll be interesting to see how they start the season. But with players returning to the fold every week, they should still field a very strong team for their colossal season opener vs. Leeds United in less than a week. It’ll just be a question of how up to speed they are all both individually and collectively.
