In what’s been a crazy season due to the worldwide health crisis, Peter Bosz’s men have handled the hectic domestic and Europa League schedule brilliantly.

Although they suffered a crushing loss to Bayern Munich on the weekend courtesy of Robert Lewandowski winner at the death, they had previously been the frontrunners on the table. Playing some extremely entertaining possession football, Bosz’s team hadn’t suffered defeat in their 11 previous matches, which highlights what remarkable form they’re in.

Boasting the second best attack and defence in the league, Die Werkself have been a huge challenge for any team, as their defensive pressing and incisive offensive work have been keys towards their success.

Possessing a well balanced team that blends youth and experience, the tactically astute Bosz has done a fine job at the helm. Getting the best out of his younger players, it’s been pleasing how excellently the likes of Moussa Diaby, Patrik Schick, Edmond Tapsoba, Florian Wirtz, Nadiem Amiri and Daley Sinkgraven have been performing.

The more experienced members of the squad such as Julian Baumgartlinger, Lucas Alario, Lukas Hradecky, Sven Bender, Lars Bender, Charles Aranguiz and Kerem Demirbay have complemented their younger colleagues superbly.

While Bosz has been delighted with his team’s form, he played down their success, stating: “I think we can all see that we are on a good run, but we haven’t done anything yet. It’s going to be a very long season.

Having lost just once in the league all term, Leverkusen head into the winter break second on the table and well positioned for a title tilt when play resumes in January – which is certainly not what many predicted.
