Although it was a disappointment not to qualify for either the Champions League or the Europa League, they’ve turned it into a positive, which their league form has evidenced. Undefeated in 14 matches heading into the Christmas break, Rudi Garcia’s men have been in wonderful form.

Having only lost one of their 17 league fixtures so far, they impressively have the second best attack and the second best defence in the league, as they’ve proven extremely tough customers to play against.

With Memphis Depay, Karl Toko Ekambi and Tino Kadewere forming a formidable strike force, the trio have scored 24 of Lyon’s 34 goals and chimed in with 11 assists. Performing at such an elite level, Garcia’s been forced to leave out star forward Moussa Dembele due to their excellence.

Absolutely jam packed with talent in central midfield, they have no shortage of options, as the likes of Houssem Aouar, Bruno Guimaraes, Thiago Mendes, Lucas Paqueta and Maxence Caqueret are fighting it out for three starting spots.

Meanwhile, in terms of their defence, Anthony Lopes has been good in goal, as he’s been ably supported by Marcelo, Jason Denayer, Leo Dubois and Maxwel Cornet.

Going from strength to strength with every passing week, the fact they’ve recorded impressive wins over Paris Saint-Germain, AS Monaco, and Nice after only winning one of their first six games, illustrates their upward trajectory.

With winnable games coming up against Lens, Rennes, Metz, Saint-Etienne, Bordeaux, Dijon and Strasbourg coming up after the break, they’ll look to cement their position on top of the table in their quest to win their first league title since the 2007/2008 season.
